 How will units use abilities?

Thought this would be a nice starting place since I couldn't find much about energy and other ability-consumption-points (think rage, mana or energy from WoW).

Clearly, this isn't WoW but for now it could be a nice place to start brainstorming for what Heroes will spend to use abilities.

So far there are three class types which I saw on the Hero section:

Special Ops
Infantry
Demolition

Pretty sure these are not solid names, but there are posts within about using names like Marine, Medic, Marauder, etc. each with their own class.

Before we can 100% nail down the classes types (DPS, ranged DPS, tank, off tank, healer, HoT healer, CC, etc.) which I'm sure is a ways away, lets think about what each class type would use as an energy source to spend on their abilities. Later, after more input, we could nail down what energies should be attached to each class (i.e. Energy to a Ranged DPS/Casting class - could be a Ghost, but who knows at this point.).

Energy- similar to mana. You have a pool of points to spend that slowly regenerate. You can regenerate Energy faster by using a battery (or something similar). The battery will regenerate mana quickly overtime when out combat. When you run out of Energy, you may not use any abilities which require it. I would think this is suited towards Ranged DPS/casters. The base level of mana is dependent on your level. You can add to your mana pool via stats (although, I have no idea what that is atm, maybe in another post?).

Kinetic Energy - similar to rage. Kinetic Energy builds up dependent on how hard the class is being hit only. The more damage on the class the faster they will build Kinetic Energy. When out of combat, the class will have 0 Kinetic Energy (if the class has just come out of combat, the Kinetic Energy will slowly decrease to 0). When the class uses an ability, it will subtract from their built up pool of Kinetic Energy. Kinetic Energy will decrease at a constant rate. Any attack that is blocked or resisted will increase Kinetic Energy.

Maybe this could be a good starting point for discussion on how this would work. Although, it would be a shame if it were the same.

Potential Energy - Something I just thought of. Potential Energy is the reverse of rage. Instead of gaining energy based on how hard you are hit, you gain energy by how much DPS or HpS you cause to a target. This will be related (not sure which relation) to your classes DPS or HpS (heals per second). The class will start out of combat with 0 Potential Energy and Potential Energy decreases by a constant amount. Some abilities will give you Potential Energy when used and cost no Potential Energy (to serve as a starting point). When you reach a certain threshold of Potential Energy you can store that potential energy and use it to gain buffs for your class.

These are just some of my ideas. I have not thought out any math related stuff for this yet, but who knows, maybe in the future and after future discussion and consideration!

Add your ideas too!
