So. Youtube just sent me this message. Apparently Blizzard is not happy. They threw the copyright hammer at me. I don't know what to think right now.

Wish I could have seen the video to make more concrete comments.

Can you get a copy of the actual complaint form that Activision/Blizzard filed with YouTube?
From the only screenshot I can see on the web it doesn't look like it would infringe on much if anything

Seriously you search "Starcraft 2" on you-tube and you get things like
-Spore creation of SC2 units and characters
-SC2 cinematics
-SC2 game replays

YouTube Search: Starcraft 2 mod
- Mod to make SC2 play like Final Fanatsy
- Project vector to make SC2 like a FPS
- Metal Slug remade in SC2.. wow an impressive side scroller

Potential "World of Starcraft" infringements?

Reports of an SC MMO... that's never been released of further substantiated?

Another site with same name
http://worldofstarcraft.org/ - suit came from activision so I dunno..

On the conspiracy side....

maybe you hit something of a nerve in the Blizzard factory of future products/ products boxed in some corner that will never see the light of day

like a SC MMO or something
"What's this... a free fans-made SC-MMO... dear god... now we can't sell XXXX product that we could make billions on... SHUT THEM DOWN NOW!!!"

$%&@#*R@&@ Blizzard & Activision!!!

Blizzard actually gives explicit permission to use their games in non-commercial videos, you should reply to YouTube with a link to http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/legal/videopolicy.html which says in part "As a community content creator, you are permitted to create video productions using Blizzard's Content, and to distribute them freely on your website, or on other websites where viewers can freely view your Production."

That's what I thought... thankyou for this link.

I think the reason why is because your using "World of Starcraft" name.. you should change the name to something else.. like "Universe of Starcraft" or something else, and indicate properly that this is a free mod from starcraft II..

Some obscure reference to the Starcraft (2) story, IE, the rise of the Zerg, could work.

You should contact Blizzard's community team. They probably have nothing to do with the ban and can even help you with the issue.

Good luck with the project!

Sorry, for my first post but.

Wouldn't it be "Activision Blizzard Inc." if they filed for Copyright? They haven't been Activision Games in a very long time, since the merge with Blizzard Entertainment. Or if it was Blizzard themselves angry about it it would have been from "Blizzard Entertainment" because that's what was claimed when the Fall of the lich king video was leaked out..

tbh it looks like you were hit by fake copyright flaggers..

GamePolitics.com made a post stating you received a cease and desist letter. *sigh* gotta love the internets. I corrected them in a comment, but hopefully we get clarification from Blizzard soon.

Thanks Smiley. :) :) :)

No prob. They emailed me and it's corrected now. I'll let them know what Blizzard says in response to this so they can report on it. :)

Hmm, looks like it's from Activision rather than Blizzard Entertainment. Perhaps someone from the Activision side of things went ahead and had it pulled, rather than check up on Blizzard's community policies.

Activision does technically still exist as separate entity to Blizzard, with the parent company being Activision Blizzard or at a higher level, Vivendi SA.

If Blizzard was unhappy with it I would have expected to see Blizzard Entertainment or Activision Blizzard there, rather than Activision Inc.

Intriguing.

If it is Activision making the decisions for Blizzard, I'd say take the risk.

I was never happy myself with Activision being part of Blizzard anyhow.

Blizzard makes the final decision and since they are letting you slide right now, Activision is almost like the protective secretary that should just shut his mouth shut when it knows it too.

After I finally got XBL gold (bought a 12 month subscription card for 40€), me and my friends were playing BC in a party. This guy came to our squad and decided for some reason to get under stairs and start idling there, so we couldn't squad spawn on him. Me and one of my friends were special ops, so we chose to punish him with tracker guns (or whatever those are)...
